Wildlife at Double E Ranch and Southwest New Mexico

Wildlife at Double E Ranch is abundant and is as diverse as New Mexico, itself. Some of it can often be found just beyond your cabin door!

Montezuma Quail at Double E Ranch
Montezuma Quail find the perfect habitat at Double E Ranch!

Adjoining more than 25 square miles of the Gila National Forest and other public lands, the land in southwest New Mexico is mostly untouched by human influence. Native wildlife is much the same as it has always been.

In 2015, Double E Ranch partnered with the New Mexico Game and Fish to maintain permanent levels of low impact on the land, game and fish. In January 2017 the Double E Ranch Management Plan was published by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish outlining plans for useage in the area. (Montezuma Quail seen at Double E Ranch).

In 2019, the Department's Gaining Access to Nature Program (GAIN) is planning to begin offering outstanding wildlife viewing, photography, hiking and horseback riding. Access from your cabin at Double E Ranch makes it extremely convenient to access these 25 square miles of public lands by participating in the GAIN Program.

The Double E Ranch will serve as a conversation education property and destination for students and teachers throughout the state and be instructed by Department personnel or contractors in a wide variety of wildlife-related activities, such as hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting sports, archery and habitat management. Double E Ranch will work closely with New Mexico State University and Western New Mexico University research programs.

Double E Ranch invites you to enjoy the variety of planned outdoor activities and developed programs. Book your cabin today!
