We would like to say again how much we enjoyed our second visit - it was truly smashing! My kids and I had a wonderful vacation at your ranch last week. The weather was perfect and everyone loved the horseback riding. I had no expectation that my youngest son, David, would learn to ride and guide his horse through the trail rides unassisted. I am so pleased that he learned to do this. Sandy is a fantastic instructor. She patiently taught David how to use his reins to control his horse, "Bart". "Bart" is to be commended as well. He was a wonderful horse for my disabled son. I have been bragging about your ranch, instructors, horses and scenery to all my coworkers. To all of my dear, special friends at the Double E Ranch: On my wrist I have tattooed a dove with an olive branch, a cross and the Bible passage "Psalm 46:10", which reads "Be still...and know that I am God". Because I struggle with inner peace and strength, and the knowledge that there is a Higher Power in control that is greater than us, I put the tattoo there in an attempt to give myself a constant visual reminder of this. Riding high atop Turtle Tock, looking literally from horizon to horizon at the vastness and the beauty of the country you folks are privileged enough to live amongst and share your lives with every day, it came over me in such a flood of emotion that here was the Bible passage literally put to life. The stillness, the peacefulness, yet the powerfulness of his God-created land filled my soul completely. I will forever be eternally grateful for the birthday gift you all have given to me. The special view you allowed me to share is beyond words. I will savor that moment and the wisdom I gained from it: I now know instead of going to what is "on" my wrist to find my peace and power and strength, I will go to the gift that was given to me "in" my heart. -- Chil'e
Hi Debbie - I just wanted to drop you both a note to say a huge thank you for our week with you. Each time I come I enjoy myself more and more and each time I leave it hurts just a little bit more! Funny, but at 50 years old I never expected to find myself getting so emotional about leaving somewhere but, the Double E has become such a VERY special part of my life its like leaving family when I leave! At the Double E I can live out my dreams but, they become reality for the time I am there and that’s VERY special.
The Double E Ranch, located in SouthWest New Mexico, is a sure enough elixir for whatever is ailing you, whether it be the blues, boredom or the need to just get away from the rat race of cell phones, texting and unproductive meetings. My best friend and saddle pard for 24 years, the legendary Ranger Rick Law, (we go on a horse vacation every year), have seen a lot of the West and ridden with many outfitters and ranch hosts. I can truly say that the week spent this summer at the Double E was one of the best we've experienced. If you are into fancy casitas with massage and facial amenities, a cocktail lounge and polo ponies with postage stamp saddles, it is not a place for you. However, if you want quiet time in beautiful country (high desert at the foot of the Mogollons in the Gila River Wilderness Area), a variety of trail rides, well broke horses, trying your skills at Team Penning or the best - Mounted Shooting than this is a place I can heartily recommend. The individual cabins are very comfortable and private, the family style served food is good and the friendly and helpful wranglers (Mark and Bill) add to the experience. Alan and Debbie Eggleston are the owners and we can say that they are our new friends. They are real people with no pretext to them and they aim to please. So, if you want to have a great western vacation in a rustic and isolated location yet a taste of the real west, give them a yodel.
